MechaGodzilla 1974

MechaGodzilla 1974

The MechaGodzilla pictured is the first release of the character. There was also an 1989-issue MechaGodzilla. This version is slightly larger than the '89 release, and has a different paint scheme. There was also an original MechaGodzilla available in the Memorial Box, though that one is based on the 1989 mold.

The '89 release is slightly smaller in proportion than the first pressing. This is due to the original mold being damaged by the time they wanted to do the rereleases, whereupon a new mold was made with the help of an '84 MechaGodzilla. There are also some slight differences in paint highlights, particularly on the chest. Then there are the different tags. Still, it is hard to tell the difference unless they are side by side, so exercise caution in purchasing one of either, particularly if it has no tag, since both do sport the same copyright dates. Both are shown in the accompanying comparison photo, with the '84 MechaG on the left.

The 2nd issue of the Showa Mechagodzilla figure has a Destroy All Monsters tag, with a 1989 date on the tag and a 1983 stamped date on the foot. It differs in a couple of ways from the 1984 MechaGodzilla, as shown in the accompanying comparison photo. The figure was reissued in the Godzilla Memorial Box
